Ronson Lighters For Sale

RONSON BANJO-FIRST ONE MOTION AUTOMATIC LIGHTER 1926

Ronson Banjo LighterOffered here for you consideration is an original Ronson Banjo pocket lighter- it is the first one motion pocket lighter made by Art Metal Works-first introduced in 1926 and made for only a few years as it was quickly supplanted by the first generation Delight design, introduced in 1928. It is a used piece that has been cleaned up cosmetically and completely rebuilt as needed with new old stock original Ronson parts so mechanically it functions as good as the day it was made. It has an old repair to the flint tube- a very common occurrence with this model. It is silver plated with engine turning front and back and has a monogram space which has never been engraved. Because the silver plating was applied over nickel plating and the colors of the 2 finishes are difficult to distinguish, I believe it to be a combination of both- it showed a fair amount of tarnish and was carefully cleaned so as to minimize any disturbance to the original silver. There are a few carry marks/scratches but otherwise it is in very good condition. A sure conversation starter whether you choose to display it in your collection, or for sure you can be the only one on your block if you choose to carry it daily and use it  to light up your smokes! An iconic piece for the advanced collector, or THE place to start if you want to build a collection of some of the oldest pocket lighters still available after all these years.

Price for this piece is $350 plus postage and insurance to your location. For more information, please inquire.

RONSON NEWARK POST WAR OCTETTE TOUCH TIP LIGHTER

Ronson Post War OctetteOffered here is a really nice Ronson Octette table lighter- post World War II- made in Newark. It is chrome plated and features the heavy weight cast body finished in ivory enamel which has only a few of the usual small flakes seen in almost all of the enamel models-it still retains its original factory gloss and looks better than most. The chrome is also above average – with only the usual small dimples in the top plate seen on the vast majority of these pieces. It has been completely reconditioned and works like new- lights first time every time as it should. It has an original Ronson factory wand and replacement wick material which will serve you for a long time. It also has the original bottom felt. The initial plate on the front is blank. These are excellent lighters for cigar and pipe smokers as they provide a strong flame with the convenience of a match- and no burned fingers! RONSON PRE WAR MAROON BODY BAKELITE  OCTETTE TOUCH TIP

Ronson OctetteThis is a very nice example of a circa 1930S Ronson Octette touch tip table lighter- it is chrome with the fairly rare color- maroon -Bakelite body- which Ronson called Ronsonoid. None of these had a monogram shield. The lighter is completely original except for the felt pad on the bottom – this is the very first design mechanism with 4 small screws holding on the spark wheel cover- these were soon replaced with small metal tabs to save costs- and it has the original screw out internal wick design wand which was also quickly replaced with a screw on replaceable wick that became a product line in it’s own right.  It has been cleaned and tuned to insure it works like it should. The body does not have any cracks or imperfections and still has a quite shiny surface all over- a lot of these Bakelite pieces faded with the years or became dull but this one is really nice. The chrome is about average with some erosion and a few nicks on the body and the usual dings in the top plate seen on all of these that were used by their previous owners. If you are looking for a very nice Pre WWII – Bakelite body Octette in rare maroon color for your collection or everyday use, this is it.

EARLY RONSON OLD STANDARD DELIGHT- OSTRICH

Ronson Early StandardOffered here is a fairly rare circa 1930s Ronson De-Light Standard model with the large oval monogram shield which is engraved with the name Gene as best as I can figure out! It is nickel plated as are most of the oldest models since chrome had not come into commercial use at that time- it is covered in what appears to me to be ostrich leather I believe to be original- and the mechanism is what is known as the “Old Standard” design. It is completely original to the best of my knowledge and has been mechanically reconditioned to work like new- overall very good + condition- a couple of scuffs on the leather on the back and few signs of carry wear to be found- if you are looking for an old standard design Standard model for your collection- or everyday use- it would be hard to find a nicer one.

Price for this piece is $100 plus shipping and insurance to your location. If I can provide any further information on this piece, please inquire.

It is chrome plated with vertical engine turning front and rear- the mechanism is what is known as the “Old Standard” design- basically the big brother of the Princess shown above. It is completely original to the best of my knowledge and has been mechanically reconditioned to work like new- overall good condition- shows a lot of scratches and some chrome erosion on the base plate-obviously not all that well cared for by its previous owner(s) - if you are looking for an old standard design Standard model for everyday use- this would be an excellent choice.

RARE RONSON PET MODEL POCKET LIGHTER

Ronson Pet ModelOffered here is a fairly rare circa 1930s Ronson Pet with a diamond shaped monogram shield which is engraved with what looks like an M to me. It is chrome plated with most of its black enamel front and rear- the mechanism is what is known as the “Old Standard” design- and is one of the tiniest mechanisms ever produced by Ronson. It is completely original to the best of my knowledge and has been mechanically reconditioned to work the best it can- would I carry this as my daily user- not hardly-most likely made for a lady’s tiny purse and hopefully not a heavy smoker- overall fair condition- shows a lot of enamel loss and well used-obviously not all that well cared for by its previous owner(s) - but if you don’t have one of these tiny pieces in your collection- this is a good piece to start with.

Price for this piece is $45 plus shipping and insurance to your location. If I can provide any further information on this piece, please inquire.

RONSON ADONIS- TORTOISE ENAMEL ON CHROME

Ronson AdonisOffered here is a fairly common circa 1950s Ronson Adonis model with a rectangular shaped monogram shield which is still blank and a star shaped engine turned design. It is chrome plated with no markings on the chrome to be seen- covered front and back with Ronson’s famous tortoise enamel which show a bit of dulling and one scratch telling me it was someone’s carry piece but well taken care of- the mechanism is what is known as the “Adonis” design and was their first new lighter design introduced after WWII- but the mechanical bits are direct descendents of the 1930s silver plated Crown and Queen Anne pieces.. It is completely original to the best of my knowledge and has been mechanically reconditioned to work like new- overall very good + condition- obviously well cared for by its previous owner(s) - if you are looking for a very nice Adonis for everyday use- or for your collection- this would be an excellent choice.

RONSON WHIRLWIND IMPERIAL- TORTOISE ENAMEL ON CHROME

Ronson WhirlwindOffered here is a not so common circa 1950s Ronson Whirlwind Imperial model with a rectangular shaped monogram shield which is still blank. It is chrome plated with no markings on the chrome to be seen- covered front and back with Ronson’s famous tortoise enamel which shows a couple of pinhead losses and some bubbling on the back panel telling me it was someone’s carry piece but well taken care of- the mechanism is what is known as the “Essex” design and was introduced around 1956 and features the then popular swivel base for ease of filling- no coin or screwdriver required. It is completely original and has been mechanically reconditioned to work like new- overall very good condition- obviously well cared for by its previous owner(s) - if you are looking for a nice Whirlwind Imperial for everyday use - this would be an excellent choice.

RONSON WINDLITE- SATIN CHROME

Ronson WindliteOffered here is a fairly common circa 1950s Ronson Windlite finished all over in satin chrome- shows a bit of what seems to me to be scuffing around the top edge- otherwise like new- this piece was, I believe, Ronson’s first attempt to compete with it’s main competitor at the time- the ever famous Zippo- It is a much heavier lighter, came with a “forever” fiberglass wick, but still required a coin or screwdriver to remove the bottom plate and access the flint and fuel chamber- but a price Ronson was willing to pay in order to make the heavier body which could not be drawn to a solid bottom because of the manufacturing issues required to work the heavy material used in it’s construction. It was extensively marketed as the best windproof lighter on the planet using cars, speedboats and even planes in some of their ads. It is definitely a nice solid chunk and a true workhorse for everyday use- and certainly looks good enough to grace any collection that may be missing this model. It is completely original and has been mechanically reconditioned to work like new- overall very good condition- obviously well cared for by its Ronson Windliteprevious owner(s) - if you are looking for a nice Windlite for everyday use - this would be an excellent choice.

Price for this piece is $45 plus shipping and insurance to your location. If I can provide any further information on this piece, please inquire.

RONSON SUPER WINDLITE- SATIN CHROME

Ronson Super WindliteOffered here is a fairly common circa 1950s Ronson Super Windlite finished all over in satin chrome- looks like new- this piece was Ronson’s next attempt to compete with it’s main competitor at the time- the ever famous Zippo- It is a much lighter than it’s predecessor- the Windlite, came with a “forever” fiberglass wick, but now sported a pull out insert to access the flint and fuel chamber with no tools required. It was extensively marketed as the best windproof lighter on the planet using cars, speedboats and even planes in some of their ads. It is definitely a nice piece that won’t tear the pocket off your t-shirt and a true workhorse for everyday use- and certainly looks good enough to grace any collection that may be missing this model. It is completely original and has been mechanically reconditioned to work like new- overall very good condition- obviously well cared for by its previous owner(s) - if you are looking for a nice Windlite for everyday use - this would be an excellent choice.

Price for this piece is $40 plus shipping and insurance to your location. If I can provide any further information on this piece, please inquire.

RONSON TYPHOON- CHROME/ALUMINUM

Ronson TyphoonOffered here is a fairly common circa 1960s Ronson Typhoon with a chrome finished top and a satin finished aluminum case- made most likely at their Delaware Water gap plant in Pennsylvania and marked on the bottom Woodbridge, N.J. - so who knows for sure- it was Ronson’s last US manufactured attempt at competing with Zippo for the basic petrol fuelled pocket lighter market. The example looks almost new- no carry marks- It is somewhat lighter than it’s predecessor- the  Super Windlite, came with a “forever” fiberglass wick, and sported a pull out insert to access the flint and fuel chamber with no tools required. It was marketed as the best (and least expensive) windproof lighter on the planet. It is definitely a nice piece that won’t tear the pocket off your t-shirt and a true workhorse for everyday use- and certainly looks good enough to grace any collection that may be missing this model. It is completely original and has been mechanically reconditioned to work like new- overall very good condition- obviously well cared for by its previous owner(s) - if you are looking for a nice Typhoon for everyday use - this would be an excellent choice.

RONSON De-LIGHT TUXEDO CASE LIGHTER

Ronson De-Light Tuxedo Case LighterThis is a really nice example of an early cigarette case and lighter combination named The Tuxedo- introduced by Ronson circa 1930, it holds 14 non-filter sized cigarettes in a sleek, curved Deco design- smooth rounded edges for ease of handling in and out of a gentleman’s coat pocket or ladies purse. It is chrome plated and finished in black with ivory enamel highlights. It is in very nice shape cosmetically and works like new as it has been completely reconditioned by me. It has been engraved in the monogram area JS. It has a pinhead or 2 of paint loss and one tiny soft dent attesting to its use over the last 70 or more years, but all in all a very nice piece. An excellent collector piece- even better daily user- and a stunning holiday gift- even if it is for yourself! Comes with a couple of spare flints to keep you going for a while- a sure conversation starter if you happen to be somewhere that smoking is still permitted!

Price for this piece is $95 plus shipping and insurance to your location. For further information, please inquire.

PENGUIN WHIRLWIND POCKET LIGHTER ENIWETOK ATOLL ENGRAVED-JOINT TASK FORCE SEVEN AEC ATOMIC TEST SITE

Art Deco Pocket LighterSo- okay- I’m an unabashed Ronson guy- but even though this is a Penguin Whirlwind Super Lighter- made in Japan- it deserves a good home. Ronson’s patent on the Whirlwind expired in 1952 and this piece is for all intents an exact copy of their Whirlwind- so the timing is right for this piece to be completely authentic – post World War Two there were a whole series of nuclear tests conducted in and around this group of coral islands in the Pacific- you can read for hours about all that took place by looking it up on the net- I didn’t find anything looking for Joint Task Force Seven- so maybe it’s still classified- or history has been re-written- but there is lots of info on the tests themselves which led to the development of various nuclear devices. The lighter is hand engraved on the back and carries a hard enamel on what looks like brass base medallion on the front- it has been completely reconditioned using all the original parts with the exception of a new Ronson wick- and so it works like new- but I would think it belongs in a collection of post war atomic testing- bomb development- Army-Navy-Air Force collection- a unique piece of history for those who treasure such things.

Price for this piece is $125 plus postage and insurance to your location. Comes with a couple of spare flints to keep you going for a while. For further information, please inquire.

RONSON CROWN TABLE LIGHTER-RHODIUM PLATE

Ronson Crown RhodiumShown here is a very nice example of one of the stalwarts of the Ronson product line- the Crown. Introduced in the mid 1930s, this model was made for around 25 years, in large quantities, and graced many a 1940s-1950s hostesses’ table. Usually found in silver plate, this piece is unique because it is rhodium plated- and clearly marked as such on the bottom- most desirable as it did not require polishing as the silver plated versions did. Except for one ding around the very bottom edge of the piece- it looks very close to new- it has been completely overhauled and will provide excellent service for many years to come. Ready to grace your table and add a bit of class to your after dinner smoke if you so desire.

Price for this piece is $75 plus shipping and insurance to your location. For further information and more photos, please inquire.

RONSON DELIGHT SUPERBA TABLE LIGHTER

Ronson SuperbaThis is a nice example of a very rare Ronson table lighter named the Superba- finished in chrome plate with engine turning- has a small monogram plate with a hand scratched S in it- and it has small dents on 3 or 4 of the corners- but it is in the 80 year old neighborhood and so has served faithfully for years- and extremely hard to find so every one is a treasure of its own. It has been completely rebuilt and is in excellent working order.

It is rated very rare and valued at $400- $800 in the 2000 Ronson book by Urban Cummings--figure 239- sale price for this piece is $425 plus postage and insurance to your location. For further information and more photos please inquire.

RONSON FIRST GENERATION DE-LIGHT STANDARD

Ronson De-LightThis is an excellent example of the first version of the one motion pocket lighter which replaced the Banjo- the Ronson Standard –circa 1928—which remained in production through many evolving design changes for probably 25 or more years- and to my knowledge this is the first generation- based on the fact that there are no patent numbers on the lighter – the lighter simply says “ PAT’D. OTHER PAT’S. P’DG.”. The piece also has the original design filler and flint screws that have no slots in them- subsequent designs had slots in the screws and carried patent numbers and the Ronson name on the base plate of the lighter. It is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition being completely overhauled by me, including a new 1930 blue pebble finish leather wrap of Ronson manufacture. It is heavy nickel plated as it predates the commercial use of chrome. If you are looking for the rare, and I believe earliest version of the Delight Standard, you have found it. Or, if like me, you want to carry and use a real conversation starter, you will be hard pressed to beat the workings of this beauty. It is engraved on the front with the initials GM in a fancy English script that shows the talent of the engraver in the flourishes used to create the 3 dimensional effect in the initials- although my photos are representative of the piece, it needs to be held in the hand to see the true beauty of the work.

RONSON BALL LIGHTER-RONDELIGHT JUNIOR

Ronson RondeLightOffered here is a Ronson Rondelight Junior- the middle size of the three Rondelights made by Ronson. It measures two and quarter inches in diameter and stands about 3 inches high- it is the US made version with the completely round bottom and features the Ronson Old Standard fitment. It is in overall excellent condition- both the enamel and chrome plating are spotless – but it has one small dent- which is a serious plus as most of these have many dings from being frequently dropped-(or thrown?)- It is in excellent mechanical condition having been completely refurbished by me- didn’t take much – was in great shape when I received it. Unlike many of these, and many New Yorkers found today, it has all of the correct original screws. One of the nicest Rondelights I have seen in some time. A great user and a great display piece, it is figure 242 in the Ronson books and has an assigned value of $300-$600.

RONSON PERISPHERE GLASS BASE TABLE LIGHTER

Ronson PerisphereShown here for your consideration is a Ronson Perisphere table lighter- a ribbed glass base containing a silver plated fitment- and I must say I have seen many of these with the wrong fitment in them- this piece contains the correct fitment which is quite rare- but the ribbed design of the glass is continued up the shoulder of the fitment- and I know of no other lighter that would have any use for this design feature and am confidant that this is the correct insert for this base. The glass base has 2 areas of roughness which can probably be buffed out but I prefer to leave it original. The silver plated fitment has been restored with the correct silver plated parts so it is true to its origins and works like it did when new. There is some slight loss to the silver plating both around the outside lower edge on one side and also to the bottom which is not visible. It is a tapered, loosely fitting insert which a Ronson catalog suggests can be removed from the glass “match striker” design base and the base used as an ash receiver- but that doesn’t seem like something I would do. A rare piece with an even rarer insert for your everyday use or to admire in your collection, it is figure 284 in the Ronson books and valued at $100-$200.

RONSON FIRST GENERATION DE-LIGHT STANDARD

Ronson First Generation

This is an excellent example of the first version of the one motion pocket lighter which replaced the Banjo- the Ronson Standard –circa 1928—which remained in production through many evolving design changes for probably 25 or more years- and to my knowledge this is the first generation- based on the fact that there are no patent numbers on the lighter – the lighter simply says “ PAT’D. It is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition being completely overhauled by me, including a new 1930 green pebble finish leather wrap of Ronson manufacture. It is heavy nickel plated as it predates the commercial use of chrome. If you are looking for the rare, and I believe earliest version of the Delight Standard, you have found it. Or, if like me, you want to carry and use a real conversation starter, you will be hard pressed to beat the workings of this beauty. RONSON SECOND GENERATION DE-LIGHT JUNIOR

RONSON SECOND GENERATION DE-LIGHT JUNIORThis is an excellent example of a circa 1930s Ronson Delight Junior model -one of the smallest pocket lighters made by Ronson- the smallest at the time of manufacture. It features heavy nickel plating which was the plating of choice before chrome was in general use a few years later. It has the “second generation fitment” – the first being know as the bicycle seat thumb press and overhead claw design spark wheel actuator- this has a later design- more modern and streamlined- and has a pawl spring in the snuffer to drive the spark wheel- a different look and I am sure easier to manufacture than the first design. It is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition having been completely overhauled and restored by me. It features one of the most sought after coverings- circa 1930 Ronson factory red Lizard pattern- absolutely new even though the leather is more than 70 years old. The monogram plate is blank- it is marked on the base of the lighter “PTD. JAN. 17,1928 RONSON De-Light PAT’S P’D’G.”  The flint screw is marked with the famous one motion patent number 19023. If you are looking for an excellent example of the Ronson Junior, you would be hard pressed to find a nicer one both cosmetically and mechanically- a great display piece and an excellent user to spark conversation ( and a great Cohiba) at the local cigar bar. Despite the photos, it is a piece that needs to be held in the hand to appreciate it fully.
